This workshop explores how the emergency services have developed over time and how different public service roles have changed to meet the needs of society. Students will look at the history of services such as the police, fire and rescue service, ambulance service and coastguard, comparing past responsibilities, equipment and ways of working with those of today. Through discussion, historical understanding and real world examples, the session helps students understand how public services have evolved and why these roles remain so important in modern society.
