Bringing the Museum to You
Take history out of the museum and into your classroom with our outreach learning programmes. Whether you’re a school, youth group or community organisation, our team can come to you with a range of flexible options, from loan boxes full of real and replica objects to curriculum-linked workshops and full Topic Takeover Days that bring history and the emergency services to life.
Choose from short talks and hands-on workshops, immersive sessions with historic vehicles, or multi-activity days tailored to your group’s needs. All activities are delivered by our engaging team and are designed to inspire curiosity, teamwork and deeper understanding across a range of subjects.

History in a box
Dig deep into history and get hands-on with our collection through our loan boxes, designed to bring museum learning directly into your classroom or venue. Each box contains a mixture of genuine objects from our collection and replica items, giving learners the chance to explore, handle and discover history up close.
Every loan box comes with a dedicated booklet packed with activity ideas. This includes general activities suitable across a range of subjects, as well as topic-specific activities linked to your chosen box, making it easy to adapt sessions for different ages and learning needs.
Loan boxes are available to hire on a weekly basis and must be pre-booked. Boxes must be collected from and returned to the museum.
Pricing
Loan boxes are priced at £40 per week, with each additional week charged at £20.
Topics
Loan boxes are currently available for the topics of 'People Who Help Us' and 'The Great Fire of London'.
Add a Workshop
Want a little bit extra from your loan box? Add a hands-on workshop delivered by our learning team at your venue for an additional £60 per one-hour workshop. As our team will be travelling to your venue, we can bring your chosen loan box with us.
Topic takeover
Immerse your class in a full day of hands-on, interactive learning with our Topic Takeover Days — a jam-packed experience that brings history to life through role play, drama, teamwork and exploration. Our Learning & Discovery team travels to your school or group setting, transforming the day into something truly unforgettable.
Topic Takeovers are designed to inspire curiosity, develop collaboration and support curriculum learning through active participation. Each day blends round-robin activities, creative challenges and problem-solving to make key historical themes engaging and memorable for all learners.
Pricing
Topic Takeover Days are priced at £350 for one class (up to 35 students) or £550 for two classes (up to 35 students per class). Additional travel costs may apply depending on location.
