The National Emergency Services Museum sits in the bustling heart of Sheffield and is home to a treasure trove of fascinating objects and iconic vehicles. An innovative, forward-thinking, self-funded and independent organisation, NESM is a centre for community, discovery, learning and fun.
Open five days a week and welcoming around 30,000 visitors each year, the museum is housed in a Victorian police, fire and ambulance station. Our nationally significant collection is brought to life through engaging, hands-on exhibitions such as Blood, Bandages and Blue Lights: A History of the Ambulance Service, The Sheffield Blitz, and Guarding the Coast. These exhibitions combine original objects, technology and visual displays to create a truly immersive visitor experience.
Alongside our galleries, NESM hosts a lively programme of in-house and city-wide events throughout the year. These range from large-scale celebrations such as the 999 Family Fun Day on The Moor, to vintage weekends, fairs, charity events and much more.
Volunteering at NESM
Are you looking for a dynamic, exciting and rewarding cause to donate your time or skills to?
NESM offers an unusual and inspiring volunteering environment, with a wide variety of roles available. From front-of-house and events support to collections care and archiving, we strive to provide an inclusive, welcoming and memorable volunteering experience. Whether you are looking to develop a hobby, gain work experience, meet new people, or simply get involved in your local community, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved.
We are also passionate advocates for inclusive volunteering. We work alongside the Autism Centre for Support Employment and other partner organisations to offer meaningful opportunities for people with additional needs. If this is something you would like to know more about, we would love to hear from you.
