An example day trip to NESM...

The below is an example day trip to the museum. This is based on one group of up to 35 students. All additional groups will participate in the same activities and workshops etc but in a different order. A daily timetable for your group will be provided.

10:00: Arrive at our historic building

We ask that all school visits arrive at the museum between 09:45 - 10:00. As we are a City centre museum we sadly do not have an on-site car park. Car parks can be located within a 30 second walk from our front door (click here for more info) with a large council pay and display car park on Workhouse lane (directly opposite the museum). If you are traveling to us by coach, you are welcome to temporally stop directly outside our front door to drop off only.

10:05: A warm welcome!

Once your group is inside the museum our team will provide a brief introduction to the museum, their importance in society and run through the days timetable and activities.

All pre-booked visits must be paid for prior to or at the start of your visit. As we welcome your group, the lead teacher will need to register your group at reception (exact numbers of adults and children).

10:10: Bags down and ready to go

We have two dedicated learning rooms on the first floor (accessible via a lift if required), these rooms have a capacity of 65 children in learning room one and 35 children in learning room two.

We only ever allocate one room to one booking per day, so you are more than welcome to leave your bags and lunches in the locked room. You can also use this room as a break out area during your day if required.

10:15: Workshop of your choice

Our workshops have been created with play and engagement at their heart while following the curriculum. Designed to FIRE the imagination of all ages, our workshops last for 50 min and are held in the museum galleries, not in a classroom.

Our dedicated team of learning co-ordinators will tailor the workshop to your groups educational needs and knowledge of the subject. You'll be able to get hands-on with history and handle / try on a mixture of genuine and replica objects.

11:00: Explore the museum

In your own groups with your own teachers / leaders, we'll give you a little time to explore the museum at your own pace. The museum is jam-packed with self-lead activities, uniforms to try on and vehicles to come face-to-face with and climb on-board!

You'll be provided with group activity sheets that are tailored to the same theme of your booked workshop and are designed to make sure you don't miss anything.

If your teachers / leaders are worn out with all the mornings excitement, you can stop by our Coffee Shop for a hot or cold drink or even a warm sandwich.

Before you visit...

Don't miss out on anything! Download our museum map before visiting the museum and if you've book a visit to us, don't forget to pop in and visit us before your trip (it's the perfect chance to learn some fun facts and look cool in front of your class).

If you have any questions at all please do not hesitate to ask! The sooner we know about something the more time we have to make sure your day runs smooth and any additional requirements or learning needs are sorted before you visit.
