Heritage Open Days 2025

The year 2025 marks 60 years since the closure of the operational station the museum now calls its home. Join us as we examine its Victorian architecture, the story behind the building, and its advanced technology at the time.

Join the museum team as they explore the hidden history of the National Emergency Services Museum.

Housed in the country’s first purpose-built combined police, fire, and ambulance station, the National Emergency Services Museum has been a place of work and home for over 60 years. Marking the closure of this operational police station in 1965, we invite you to join our team for a special pre-booked talk and tour that goes beyond our exhibits and exhibitions.

Discover the rich history of this remarkable building, its role during the Blitz, and its significance as a community hub and home. Explore some behind-the-scenes areas not usually accessible to the public, uncover the stories of those who served here, and learn about the cutting-edge technology that made this building so advanced for its time.

This tour will also delve into the unique architecture of the building, its architect, and the reasoning behind its peculiar layout, designed to accommodate the needs of three emergency services under one roof.

These tours and talks are only available when pre-booked via the link above and will run on Saturday 13, Friday 19 and Sunday 21, September as part of the Heritage Open Days celebrations.
